Course description

This course revises, consolidates and develops the English language knowledge in all four language activities with a distinct focus on oral communication skills.

Teaching materials vary and are generally made available on Moodle during the course.

Requirements

Knowledge of English at university entrance level (B2 CEFR)

Examinable components

Active participation in at least 75% of all classes
Presentation (12 min.) with subsequent discussion from the field of IT

Learning Content

Development of oral communication skills - giving an introduction speech, delivering an academic presentation, leading a discussion, preparing and conducting interviews, analysing and describing graphs and charts, making predictions, etc.
Development of writing skills - writing a formal email, applying for an internship (CV and covering letters), writing definitions etc.
Development of reading skills - applying different reading techniques
Development of listening skills - listening for general understanding, listening for detail, understanding numbers
Development of cross-cultural awareness and competence
Grammar revision - conditional clauses, tenses etc.

4 SWS
Offered in the winter semester only
Credit points according to the relevant degree programme and exam regulations (3 CPs as a non-technical elective for students on B.Sc. programmes of the Faculty of Computer Science)

Primarily for students on B.Sc. programmes at the Faculty of Computer Science
