Course description

This course develops skills in all four language activities required to act successfully in an English-speaking engineering environment. Students are prepared to deal with topics relevant to engineering such as innovation, design, systems, procedures and processes.

Requirements

Knowledge of English at university entrance level (B2 CEFR)

Examinable components

Active participation in at least 75% of all classes and submission of assignments

Learning Content

Development of reading skills, applying different reading techniques
Development of writing skills - production of different text types (product design specification, product recall)
Development of oral communication skills (giving a talk on laser machines, brainstorming)
Revision and consolidation of grammatical structures (use of tenses, questions, active – passive voice, modals, clause linking, phrasal verbs etc.)

Part 1 of the two-semester “English in Engineering” programme
90 min/week (2 SWS)
Offered every semester
Credit points only upon completion of Part 2 according to the relevant degree programme and exam regulations
