Course description

This course develops skills in all four language activities required to act successfully in an English-speaking engineering environment. Students are prepared to deal with topics relevant to engineering such as processes, planning, agreements, or testing. Additionally, students learn essential presenting skills that help them prepare and deliver effective presentations.

Requirements

Successful completion of B2 English in Engineering Part 1

Examinable components

Active participation in at least 75% of all classes and submission of assignments
10 min. presentation on a piece of news from the world of engineering with subsequent discussion
Final written test (marked)

Learning Content

Development of reading comprehension skills, applying different reading techniques
Development of writing skills - production of different text types (definitions, test report)
Development of oral communication skills (giving a presentation on a piece of news from the world of engineering with subsequent discussion)
Revision and consolidation of linguistic devices expressing cause–effect or different degrees of certainty
Revision and consolidation of grammatical structures (use of future tenses, active – passive voice, hyphenated attributive adjectives (a 20-by-17-metre shake table) etc.)
